oil on a wooden panel 50x50X5cm
Sonnet to the Tors is a quiet homage to the enduring presence of landscape and memory. Two expressive clusters—one ascending in the upper left, the other grounded in the lower right—are joined by delicate, flowing lines that drift across a soft, grey-white field. The palette—reds, oranges, yellows, and blacks—suggests warmth, elemental force, and emotional resonance.
This painting doesn’t depict the tors directly; instead, it distils their essence into gesture and rhythm. The forms feel like echoes—of stone, of wind, of time—woven into a visual sonnet. The negative space amplifies the tension and grace between the two forms, inviting reflection and interpretation.
For collectors, Sonnet to the Tors offers a contemplative balance of abstraction and poetic structure. It’s a piece that speaks to the quiet grandeur of place and the emotional landscapes we carry, making it a compelling addition to collections that value nuance, depth, and lyrical minimalism.
I use oil pastels, oil sticks, markers, scrapers, charcoal, pigment sticks, newspaper, and graphite to make marks, depending on the moment.
UV-protected and signed on the back. The work is on a plywood panel and ready to hang. No further framing is needed.
